This Week’s Lie from the President

-I was personally offended by the President the other day. He thinks I’m an idiot. He thinks most Americans are idiots. He is of the attitude that when he says something it automatically becomes true and automatically becomes the law of the land. Unfortunately for the President the patience of most Americans is wearing quite thin. Years after declaring, “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” and telling Americans how his signature law will bend the cost of health insurance down the President is spouting yet another set of lies. There were plenty of lies to choose from but the most blatant of them referred to internet gun sales. As if you can have a gun delivered to your door like a book from Amazon.com. To the uninformed it might seem plausible. If you believe that this is possible, please search the internet for any gun dealer and look into the process of buying a gun on line.  (See side bar on Internet Gun Sales.) For seven years he has tried to convince Americans that they will be safer if legally obtaining firearms becomes harder. For seven years he has failed. He is not alone. For years and years before him there has been a long line of politicians and pundits that tried to talk America out of the single right that has kept us free and safe. They have tried to rewrite and redefine the 2nd Amendment more times than I can count. They have had some minor victories. They have changed the language as Progressives usually do. We now have things called assault weapons, as if an inanimate object can pick and choose which action it can play a part in. An AR-15 can just as easily be used in defense as it can be used in offense. The action is initiated by the person who holds the AR-15. To make it simple for those still scared of a rifle because it looks “scary” I’ll put it as plainly as I can. In football there are footballs, there are no touchdown footballs, and there are no interception or fumble footballs. The football does not get to decide whether it will be caught for a touchdown or intercepted. End of story. For seven years Obama has desired to keep guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Only the US Constitution, which defines how laws are created through our three branches of government, has stopped him. Like a child who is not getting his way, Obama tosses the pieces off of the game board, and storms off to his room to sulk. Unfortunately, unlike most who grow out of being a spoiled child, Obama has already matured and has never outgrown that awful trait, and is unlikely to do so over the final year of his time in office. The “constitutional scholar” in the Oval Office will attempt once again to flaunt the Constitution in order to get what he wants. I would like to remind Mr. Obama that the President of the United States is not a monarch, nor is the United States a monarchy. I know that they do not teach American History the way they should in schools anymore but I direct the president’s attention to the events that transpired in the Colonies between 1776 and 1786. It was when mere shopkeepers and farmers took up their personal weapons in order to defeat an undefeatable military power. The cause? Freedom and liberty from a tyrannical monarch. After that he should focus his studies on the Federalist Papers as they are the handbook to the US Constitution. They leave little doubt as to what those who wrote the US Constitution meant and desired and were concerned about. They had just fought a costly war to free themselves from a tyranny, they had no intention of leaving one tyranny to enter into another.

“I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.” – Defining what is a ‘militia’, George Mason, co-author of the 2nd Amendment.

It’s all there. The US Constitution and Bill of Rights. Not perfect, because it comes from the hand of man, who is not perfect. Yet provides the framework for changing and introducing legislation. It comes from the legislative branch. Obama is in the executive branch. Had he wanted to introduce and pass legislation then he should have remained a senator. A senator from a state which has a city with some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country. It should be no surprise that Chicago is also one of the deadliest cities in America. Regardless of whether Obama acknowledges that fact or not the correlation between restricting legal gun ownership and high homicides is real and it is undeniable.

“False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. Laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they act rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” — Thomas Jefferson in quoting from ‘On Crimes and Punishment’, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

While gun opponents might cheer today I’m sure they will scream about the lawlessness of the next president’s actions when they reverse such executive actions with the sweep of a pen, should a Republican win the election. How do I know this? Here’s a quote from recent history. “The biggest problems that were facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all, and that’s what I intend to reverse when I’m President of the United States of America.” – Senator and Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, 2008. Power is being used by the executive that he has no legal right to use. This goes for both parties. Hillary has already promised to use more executive actions to do more things. Expanding authority she has no constitutional right to. Promising to break the oath of office before she ever takes the oath of office. Given her past criminal activity this should come as no surprise to anyone. It might very well be the only time she’s ever told the truth. It is due time that we pick up the Constitution, read the Constitution, understand the Constitution, and demand that our elected leaders abide by the Constitution, from dog catcher up to POTUS, and all stops in between. What say you? Because this Matters.
